S&P 500 Apple — ten numbers for 2026

S&P 500 and Apple belong in the same sentence because if you own a plain S&P 500 ETF, roughly 7% of it is already Apple — even though the brand says “500.”

No definitive forecast — but plenty of disclosed numbers. This piece maps index concentration, Apple’s structural role, and 2026 scenarios for broadening vs continued Mag 7 dominance. Not investment advice.

S&P 500 Apple — ten numbers for 2026

1. S&P 500 aggregate cap ~$60–68T mid-2026. 2. Mag 7 ≈35–40% of the index. 3. Top 10 weight ≈41% (end-2025). 4. Top 10 earnings share ≈32% — cap concentration runs ahead of profits (RBC). 5. Apple weight ≈6.9%, Nvidia ≈8.6% (May 2026). 6. Apple Q2 FY26 revenue $111.2B (+17% YoY). 7. Services $31B (+16%), iPhone $58B (+22%). 8. New $100B buyback, dividend $0.27 (+4%). 9. R&D ~10.3% of revenue — AI spend up, capex still tiny vs hyperscalers. 10. Index hit 6,932 close (Dec 2025) and traded above 7,000 intraday (Jan 2026).

Why the index doesn’t feel like 500 stocks

Cap-weighting means flows into SPY/VOO track the largest names. Since 2023, cap-weight beat equal-weight by ~31 percentage points over three years (RBC). iShares’ 2026 base case allows for some broadening — all 11 sectors gained in 2H 2025 — but Mag 7 still dominates.

S&P 500 Apple — top holdings weight chart

Nvidia leads, Apple second — together ~15% of the index. Chip supply chain vs installed-base services — different AI layers.

Apple’s different AI path

On-device inference, partner models (Gemini for Siri), minimal hyperscaler-style capex, maximal buybacks. Apple contributes to S&P EPS growth through Services margin and share count reduction — not $100B data-center builds.

S&P 500 Apple — Q2 revenue mix

iPhone still drives the quarter, but $31B Services shows Apple is not a pure hardware line in the index earnings mix.

S&P 500 Apple — weight vs earnings gap

Top 10 weight 41% vs earnings 32% — the “Great Narrowing.” Mega-caps need earnings to validate premium weights.

Three scenarios after 2026

A) Concentration persists — cap-weight ≈ Mag 7 bet. B) Broadening — equal-weight wins. C) Apple AI execution — beat/miss moves ~1–1.5% of the index per 15–20% Apple move.

Retail checklist (Korea context)

Know cap vs equal weight, FX on USD earnings, and that “US index” ≠ diversified economy in 2026.

S&P 500 Apple risks

  • Single-theme concentration
  • China / tariffs
  • Nvidia vs Apple rotation
  • Cook → Ternus transition

One-line take. The S&P 500 name suggests breadth; the math says Mag 7 — and S&P 500 Apple is ~7% of that story. Apple sits outside the hyperscaler capex race while buybacks and Services anchor index EPS. Knowing whether you own cap-weight or equal-weight is the baseline for 2026.

The S&P 500 still has 500 names — but in 2026, Apple alone is ~7% of the index.
